Tom Kastle is a singer, songwriter, sailor, and teller of tales, based in the Great Lakes, who has traveled the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Pacific. With one foot in the singer/songwriter world and the other foot firmly planted in the traditional maritime realm, Tom brings a sense of "writing out of the tradition" to his music that is evident in his recordings and performances.
He toured as half of Tom & Chris Kastle for two decades, producing a dozen recordings and a soundtrack for PBS (WTTW-TV Chicago). Recently, Tom has appeared at folk venues throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and around the Chesapeake Bay as well as sea music festivals in Duluth, Chicago, Halifax and Mystic Seaport. Tom was heard on folk and community radio and was honored to be a guest host for Rich Warren's Sweet Folk Chicago show on WFMT. There is a strong sense of "story" in all his work; both spoken and sung. This Winter, Tom will narrate his third production for the Candid Concert Opera Company (with a small singing role). When ashore, he lives in a 19th century log cottage on the shore of one of Madison, Wisconsin's lakes.
